Chantel has always loved taking pictures, from about 5 years old she could be seen documenting her family’s lives. Her Grandfather, Albert was a successful portrait photographer in Hollywood, California and he taught her the importance of treating every person like they were a celebrity…
Chantel went to college in San Antonio at The University of the Incarnate Word for Marketing. While attending classes, she began an internship that led to a full time position at one of the leading Public Relations firms in San Antonio. One of her favorite clients, The San Antonio Children’s Shelter, gave her the opportunity to combine two loves; children and photography. As a Project Manager for their first television commercial, Chantel learned about motion picture film and again found love! The commercial won a local and regional ADDY Award.
In 2000, Chantel made a switch from the Marketing and Advertising world, to Photography and Film. She interned, assisted and carried some pretty hefty camera bags for some of the most respected photographers in San Antonio, Houston and Austin. Workshops and hands – on training taught her some valuable skills in Medium format, 35mm film and Digital photography.
In 2002, Chantel started taking production stills for commercial television for clients such as Toyota, Chevrolet, and the movie “Broken Sky”, a foto novellas filmed in San Antonio. For the next four years, while still shooting weddings, portraits, and production stills, Chantel worked behind the scenes on some major motion pictures in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Guardian, Vampire Bats, Elvis the mini-series, Grindhouse, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432402/, and Faith of My Fathers were a few that fed her film bug…
After relocating to Austin from New Orleans (thanks to Hurricane Katrina), Chantel opened her first studio catering to brides looking for a photojournalistic approach to their wedding photos and parents wanting to capture the true essence of their children with spontaneous lifestyle portraits. Her work was featured in The Knot, Austin Weddings of Distinction, Austin Fit, Austin Family Magazine and Tribeza. She was the 2007 Gold winner for a photograph from Parenting Publications of America.
Chantel now lives in San Antonio, with her film Director Husband, Zach and their two-year-old daughter Zoe. She can be found most days chasing Zoe or behind the scenes on one of Zach’s shoots…and usually has a camera and a latte in her hand. Oh and her mantra, be honest, be humble, be human!
And in case you haven’t noticed already, Chantel displays an uncanny ability to talk about herself in third person.
